Sorry there hasnt been an update for a while, I've been a little preoccupied with a new member to the Familey.
Anyway, a short update.
XC Dig days are largley on hold at present, unless we can find someone with a bit of time on there hands this year to run dig days (mail to xc@wharncliffe.info if you fancy it). That said there is work going on in the background.
Signage for the DH MTB area is on its way.. honest it is.. and will up soon. The FE have freed up some time to spend a day a month at Wharncliffe working on all things MTB and we are attempting funding applications for surfacing of the trail lines that have been put in place (and that are admitadly...terrible to ride as there so muddy)..
There are new reps for the DH side of things and they should be starting some DH dig days this month.
So as ever we plod along...
Cheers Simon.

XC Dig days to resume
I'm just waiting for approval from the FE to build a climb from the TPT to the top of the DH Runs. This will resolve the issue where fastrack is now a descent / push up track for DH and give back the XC guys a nice challenging climb.
Approval should happen this month, then we should be resuming digs on the last Sunday of the month for the winter, certianly through till Feb.
Keep your eye out on
www.singletraction.org.uk
and www.wharncliffe.info for dates / news.
Cheers.

XC Trail boggy
Just a quick warning really. The XC Trail has suffered pretty badly with two long summers of rain. At no point has the trail had chance to dry out and harden up. The more its ridden in the wet, the wider / worse it gets. So, if you can please, don't bother riding the red XC singletrack if its rained recently. If the FE support a funding application in the future we would endeavour to surface the trail to make it rid able year round.
Thanks for your c0-operation.

Excellent start to the year
The first dig day of 2008 turned out to be a stormer !
Nice weather and the best turn out we have seen for a long time. Got loads of maintenance done on sections 1 through 3, they needed some TLC, someone put bit more of a lip on that table top too ![]()
Thanks to Duncan, Mark, Paul E, Dave S, Ben, Derek, Mikkel, Si west, Jon from SCC, erm did I forget anyone ? Couple more folks who rode by said they would be down next time.... Great start to 2008 many thanks to all.
Next Dig is Feb 24th, Time to build some more bridges. 1 gully in section 2, 1 in section 5, then who knows, the magic trail pixies may have flagged section 7 to start on by then ![]()

Vandalism of the XC Trail markers
Well were really trying to mark up the red route, unfortunatley someone else is doing all they can to un do our work.
Dave and I headed up at 8:00 this morning to get cracking with finishing the Red trail markers, Unfourtunatley we spent half of our time up there putting back what we had originally placed last time.
The markers at the begining and end of Section 4 had been removed, we found them again thrown in the woods. Also right out on the TPT towards oughtibridge we placed one last time and that had gone and we couldn't find it. For what its worth, all were in place on December 22nd, so its happend between then and today.
We've replaced the posts, with 7" nails in the bottom and a bag of post mix in each, we've also dug them deeper. So were confident that they will stay this time, if some one is going to remove them it will take considerable effort.
If anyone spots someone removing posts please can they email me with a description to xc@wharncliffe.info Its plain and simple vandalism, STA will try to work with FE to prosecute anyone vandalising these posts in anyway.
On a positive note, we have completed marking up all of the Red trail, I wanted to include a bit of existing singletrack down past diamond back but ran out of time. But now if you follow the red markers, you do a nice short loop of th e woods.
